Winter Coat Trends For AW16

Winter coats, yes it is that time of year again and oh my gosh, how cold has it gotten in the past few days? With the cold snap setting in, it really got me thinking about my new winter coat for this season, but with so many trends out there which ones should we be going for in order to look super stylish when stepping out during the cold winter months?

Here is a roundup of 10 that you should be looking at.

Winter Coat Trend 1: Military

Military trend has not only being on the AW16 runways it has also been seen on the streets and is one look that really does escalate your look. Go for pieces that create a sharp shouldered look with epaulettes typical seen on military coats/jackets and piped edges which give a fresh feel to this trend. The high street have gone for this trend in a big way so you are bound to find one out there that suits your body shape.

Winter Coat Trend 2: The Leopard Print

The Leopard print coat is quite a controversial one as it has had some bad history that had deemed it to be considered trashy, I mean just think about Bet Lynch (Coronation Street) or Pat Butcher (Eastenders) but over the years it has also been worn by Princesses…Princess Grace of Monaco to be exact and film stars like Sophia Loren and Elizabeth Taylor. This season this coat is back with the added power of making you look super chic!

Winter Coat Trend 3: Shearling

This 70’s luxurious, soft winter coat is a classic and has made a comeback this season, because of it’s fluffy inside it is bound to keep you warm and cosy on them extra cold days. This trend was seen on the AW16 runway shows but don’t worry if your cash doesn’t stretch that far as the high street have got it covered too.

Winter Coat Trend 4: Checked

Fashion has gone crazy over checks from Prince of Wales to houndstooth, plaid to tartan, checks are one trend that you should be rocking this AW16 season. This trend is my personal favourite as I love traditional checks, but also with bright and bold ones about on the high street you are bound to find one that suits your personal style.

Winter Coat Trend 7: Trench

This timeless design is one that should be in every woman’s wardrobe and this season the trench has had a makeover – with leather as seen at the Proenza Schouler show and checks seen at the Preen. Will you chose to stay traditional or opt for a modern twist?

Winter Coat Trend 8: Belted

The SS16 trend of sleepwear as outerwear has carried through to AW16 in the form of belted dressing gown style coats, and these really are a functional and stand-out piece. It really allows you to keep the cold wind a bay as you wrap yourself as snug as a bug in a rug!

This is a trend that we have seen for a few seasons and once again this trend is here to stay for AW16. Look for sloping shoulders, elongated sleeves that stop at your shin for a look that says ‘I’ve borrowed this from my man’!

Winter Coat Trend 10: Minimalist with Interest

What do you get if you take a simple coat and add touches of embellishment or interest like laced up lapels, decorated hems and sculpted bodice? You get the minimalist with interest trend and one trend that will demand attention when you walk down the street.
